Just bought and installed Crane toilet-in-a-box, bought it at Lowes, seemed like an ok deal…everything needed in one box for $80. Yes, everything was there, except for the water line. It went into a rental apartment, powder room (two other full baths) so it will probably be ok…but what a pos. Rather small, round front bowl, small seat, a little problem getting the provided seat bolts to line up with the holes in the base, just not at all impressive. next time I will advise the owners to spend a few more bucks and put in something decent…not expensive, just better.
Do it right, or do it twice.

Your "tag line" is almost what you may end up doing!!
We bought and sold the same unit by the pallet full for several years....mostly sold in a county that has an average income of $20M/family and their purchasing values were tied to "the cheapest". At $80 it was a real deal for my customer on a tight budget or for the owner of rental property.
You are right about the supposed "standard" bowl size and the often slightly miscast blemishes. I will say that we never had one returned because it didn't flush....but we had a very few that leaked due to pinholes in the casting.
I've had occasion to use the Crane....if you have to sit.....it's a tight fit.......and I'm 6'/0 and 175#! I hope it will satisfy your client.

Yeah, well, since it's for the powder room, and it does work...at least I'm learning from my mistakes :)Do it right, or do it twice.
"The Toilet To Go " is in standard pricing of new homes in my area. It is the the choice in spec homes and rehabs meant for resale . First time home buyer loans on starter houses plus most budget constuction such as apartments mostly use this type of toilet. All builder specs here show the toilet to go as "Crane economical type toilet " as standard equiptment. Any thing above this will be considered an upgrade. Most all my rental houses the Crane economical toilet. The only thing I see wrong with them is their size . They operate fine in flushing. I was skeptical like you when I first started using them , but I have found them to be very serviceable for the cost.
On a funny note ;
My thinking reflects that they do the job , why ask for more ? The bathrooms I build dont have the room for an elongated toilet anyway. Just dont sell the house to a Texan. The Chinese like them. When they start selling the better ones for 80.95, Ill switch. Save your money. :]
