I’m planning to build a icf home with some amount of berming on the north, west, and east sides. Anybody have a good way of venting the crawl space?
It doesn’t matter how fast you get there, it just matters that you go in the right direction.

There are a number of ways to achieve a level foundation and mudsill.

Oh to vent or not to vent. That is the question. Talk w/ a local radon mitigator about how to install a passive system in as you build.
Or you can email me, i will try to guide you.
Jim, Thanks for your response and your offer. I plan on having poly on the floor of the crawlspace and a vent stack, possibly two, taped to the poly in the crawlspace, to vent gasses. The questions that I have are these:
My local inspector thinks I'm nuts and says "I don't know of any radon problems here" (Southern Colorado) I know it's common along the front range.
ANDI'm building on expansive soils, so as a "bad soil" mitigation I'm planning the following: Over excavate about 2' below footer bottom. Cut the pad surface to a slight dome shape draining off in all directions away from the center of the house. Cover that with double layer of 6 mil poly, compact 20" to 24" of sand over the poly, build footer form on that. Backfill for minimum frost depth of 32". Isn't the soil prep likely to mitigate the radon, too?
ALL comments appreciated!

Run some perf drain tile under the slab & around the perimiter. Run the slab tile into a 4" pvc & vent thru the roof just like a plumbing vent....Make sure that u label it. Have seen more than one plumber tie into it for a waste pipe. IF your soil is real sandy, you might not have any radon there. You can do a search for radon & find a map of areas that it is prevalent in.
One of the nice things about putting in a passive system, is it pretty much eliminates all moisture probs.
Sorry this took so long to respond to.
Thanks!Any jackass can kick down a barn, but it takes a carpenter to build one.
Has.... you may also need a sump if you think that you may have a spring....I prefer to drain to outside if possible. Dont like sumps.
