I have both a question to ask and information to share. I have a difficult, but not uncommon situation with a (newly-purchased) 40 year old house that was built with a 2,000 square foot unventilated crawl space. The joists were pocketed and so adding vents is not possible. It does not have a water problem, but a serious moisture problem, and dry rot is beginning to appear on the floor joists. I found a great product made by Stego Wrap; a 15 mil fiber-reinforced polyethylene plastic made from 100% virgin plastic (I’m a recycling nut, but Stego Industries’ claims that the common use of recycled plastic in conventional polyethylene sheeting results in “6 mil poly” not being anything close to a vapor barrier. Nor does it last very long). Stego Industries also makes a companion mastic and tape. The tape will seam the Stego Wrap where sheets overlap and where it will overlap the perimeter insulation I’m installing. The Stego Mastic will waterproof the inside surface of the perimeter cinder block stemwall (so that I can fasten the rigid insulation with adhesive) AND seal around every interior spread footing. After rolling on the Stego Mastic and adhering the rigid insulation, I will unroll the the Stego Wrap, cut and seal around spread footings with mastic, and then lap the stego wrap 6″ up the rigid isnultaion and seal with with tape. Quick, easy, realtively inexpensive and as tight a a system as I’ve seen.
QUESTION: I just heard about a fiberglass-coated crawl space insulation that rolls out over he perimeter stemwall (meets fire and energy code requirements). Anybody know the name or manufacturer?
Thanks

Greetings Andrew and thanks for the data.
I'd like to know more about the fiberglass-coated crawl space insulation also.
This post, in response to your question, will bump the thread through the 'recent discussion' listing again.
Hopefully it will catch someones attention that can help you with advice.
Cheers
r u a feckless dastard?
Rez, I think that I FINALLY confirmed beyond doubt that the only product on the market with approvals for "unprotected" installation in a crawl space is Thermax, a foil-faced polyisocyanurate made by Dow (prviously made by Celotex).
