Hello all, this is my first time in Breaktime so forgive me if I sound a bit new.
I live in GA and I’m getting quite a bit of standing water in my crawlspace as a result of a really flat backyard. From what I can tell everything appears to be coming in through foundation. It also only appears to be entering along one side of my house. I’m thinking about digging in a french drain along that one wall and having it drain to the already lowest corner, where I would install a sump. There is already a sump in my crawlspace but it’s in the middle as opposed in one of the corners. My thinking is to direct the water as soon as it enters as opposed the the way it is now where it drains to the center of my crawl sapce Am I correct in my thinking? And does the french drain consist of a ditch, with alittle pitch, holed corrugated pipe, a silt sock and gravel?

Not sure I read that right. Are you proposing to install the french drain inside the crawlspace? The interceptor drain should be on the outside of the foundation, to keep as much water as possible out of the house. Other than that, you're on the right track. Some people wrap the perf pipe with a filter fabric (landscape fabric should work) to keep the silt out. Oops ... just re-read ... you mention a silt sock ... must be the same as filter fabric. And I have been told that the holes go on the bottom of the pipe.
If you dig the ditch around two sides ofd the house, you might not need a sump and pump. Intercept the water on the high side of the house, and let gravity carry it to the low side where it could drain away naturally.

you'vwe gfot the right idea, though in most places it is best to have the perimeter drain or french drain on the exterior to keep warter from getting in in the first place. For retofit, might be easiest to install inside, if you cover with plastic VB to keep moisture from migrating airborne to feed mold and cause other interior problems
