I’m building house for myself in coastal northern california, and i’m considering using a netting type product called “Home Slicker” over 15lb felt to create an airspace behind the 1×12 board and batt redwood siding. this stuff is faily expensive and none of the builders in my area seem to use it or any other variation of it. Is it a waste of time and money or good idea? if so are there any cheaper or better products out there?

I just finished one wirth the stuff. I like the idea and the performance, if not the cost. The alternative way to a drainage plain is to rip a bunch of slats to tack up vertically. That adds to the labor cost. Speaking of labour, this stuff doesn't put itself up either. Thjeir is a screen required at bottom to keep insects out too.
But the performance speaks for itself. I had told the owner that they wouldn't be able to tell the diference for ten or thirty years when the paint is still doing well and no siding is warping or rotting off. but we had a wicked rain the other night and when I got to the job, I could see water weeping out from that drainage plain in a couple spots. I studied the wall and for the life of me, I can't see wheree it might have gotten in, but there it was, so I'm sold on the idea.
