creative solutions for anti-rot deck str
hi everyone-
i am building a deck in a really wet spot in hawaii, and am using trex for the decking and railings. for the structure, the best i have come up with (thanks to advise from paint manufacturers and some people on this forum) is to use pressure treated lumber and give it some pentrating deck sealant. but im still wondering if there are some other products out there for me. does anyone know of plastic, mixed products like trex, fiberglass, anything that i might be able to use that wont rot, even if it is expensive. and if not , what about applying tar or creosote to the timbers as they do for railroad ties or telephone poles?
thanks a bunch

how about some creative concrete work? - - for wood, I don't think you can do better than commercial treated product. I've used creosote (I don't believe you can buy it anymore), and it worked (above ground application), tho smelly - - RR ties are injected with it using heat and pressure, even if you can get creosote, you can't duplicate the treatment (how about using RR ties?) - - 'tar' would be worse than nothing IMO...
Try this http://www.usplasticlumber.com and look under the structural lumber heading. Good luck. Have fun!
