I cut down a spruce today… REAL ugly tree that was in the way of progress 🙂 Spruce tree that just hadn’t grown right from the beginning.
I stripped it down… and am left with two logs. One is 10ish foot by 14″ round. Other is a bit tapered, 16ft long – 14″ round tapering to about 6″. Typical pine… lots of branches along the logs. Not really suitable for any type of lumber… even IF I could get anyone to take ’em.
I really don’t want to load these up and schlep them down to the recycle center. Kinda would like to find a creative use for them in some capacity.
I’m pretty handy with the chainsaw… could carve out some joints and can cut a straight line, when needed.
Thought about a log bench… but we really don’t need a bench. Thought about a planter of some sort… logs aren’t that attractive.
Wife would like to make use of them also (can you guess the REAL motivation here?).
Any creative ideas? This is more for fun than anything else… so any idea is more than welcome.

My parents have a conversation piece in their home that was made by one of my brothers, many, many years ago.
It's a peeled sapling, about 3-4 inches in diameter, drilled through with a lot of randomly spaced holes, stained and varnished and just standing there in the living room, wedged vertically between floor and ceiling.
Yours would be just a tad fatter.<G>
How's your carving skill?
A chainsaw or one of those chainsaw disks that fit on an angle grinder would whip out a nice totem pole or a bunch of little garden animals.
Got any kids in your family?
Take them camping. The VERY FIRST thing they'll want to do is to build a fire. Have the wood ready for them. Light, dry and fast burning. Seventh heaven for a young camper.
Slice the log into disks. Get a wood burning tool and burn in the words "ROUND TWO IT". Sell them at craft fairs or give them as gifts. Keep some for your wife because the next time she asks for something and you tell her you'll get to it when you get around to it, she can hand you your official "ROUNDTWOIT"
Any Cub Scout dens in your area?
The pine wood derby cars come in kits. They have to get the wood from somewhere.
You want creative? draw a tic tac toe # on each end but rotated from each other by about 30*....rip the log with a chainsaw or bandsaw mill on snapped lines.
You now have 9 pieces...scattter the pcs. all over the yard, challange a few kids to reassemble into a tree.
That'll keep em busy.
I made a ton of those puzzles one yr for xmas gifts for nefews and nieces..albeit MUCH smaller..LOL.
