On the corner or my house some critters chewed through my freeze board and have made a nice home for themselves.
The repair shouldn’t be an issue. I can tell it has been repaired before and assume it is for the same issue.
Looking at the repair I discovered my roof was put on over an existing roof. This results in the shingles being slightly elevated. When I fix the wood it will leave a slight gap for the critters to get back in and redo the damage.
Any advice as to what materials I can put behind the board to stop them. Some spray foam or some flashing??
I’m adding some pictures to give an idea of what I working with.

Some metal eave edge would help with a lot more than the critters.

i believe you have squirrels. had same problem. us expanding foam, they will not eat through. when you have your roof replaced, make sure they use drip edge. i got rid of them whenh i replaced the roof this summer. new plywood over old sheathing and drip edge all around. haven't seen them since. i used lots of great stuff. kept an extra can on hand , this is only temporary until new roof.
Thanks for these suggestions. Good point about the drip edge. Any idea as how to install some under an existing roof? Thanks,
Couldn't tell from your pictures how close the trees were to the roof line but know from experience that it is important to keep tree limbs trimmed way back from the roof otherwise the critters have "an avenue to the house" and once they start it is hard to keep them out.
also, stuff some mothballs in that hole. Makes them not want to be there.

Seems to me you LACK some critters. Like, say, cats and ferrets.
wrap you eaves in sheetmetal will stop that.two ways to screw up concrete 1) concrete driver 2) concrete finisher
