I’m looking advice on attaching crown molding to kitchen cabinets. The attached drawing shows the general configuration and shape of the molding.
I have a pneumatic nail gun, but I’m afraid it won’t work well in this application. I could try driving the nails perpendicular to the face of the molding, which would drive the nails at an angle to the face frame. Or I could drive the nails perpendicular to the face frame, which would require driving the nails at an angle through the molding. Either way, I’m afraid the result won’t be very good.
Also I’m not sure how to hold the molding in place temporarily while I’m attaching it. Clamps can’t be used because of limited clearance from the ceiling and lack of access.
Any thoughts on other ways of temporarily supporting and attaching the crown molding?
Thanks.

How about this? (see attached)

Edit: Oops, never mind, I guess. After re-reading your post, I realized that there probably isn't room above the crown molding to do this.

Thanks! I'll give this a shot.
Are you sure there's enough face frame above the doors to attach the crown moulding at all ??
In almost every case when installing kitchen crown I have to add a strip of wood along the top of the cabinets, then attach the crown to that while just covering the last 1/8 inch or so of face frame.
Granted these are almost always overlay doors.
If you have to attach a nailing strip on top, you can rip it to a face angle similar to the crown and then screw it straight down into the face frame.
Good luck.
Get a brad nailer and shoot it on. If you don't have enough meat to nail into with whatever angle you are shooting, do what jaxstraw said and shoot on some firring strips to the tops of the cabinets (very simple and fast). If the cabinets are already installed and too high for getting abrad gun above them, glue and clamp from the face frames. Screw if you don't feel confident about the glue.Piece of cake
wow ...
first ... I think yer seriously overthinking this ....
it's just sticking one hunk of wood to another ...
now ...
are the cab's down from the ceiling enough to reach over?
if so ... just predrill straight thru the face of the cabs .... U know .. up where the crown is gonna sit ...
then ... just drive screws straight thru from the backside ... into the back of the crown.
the old ... double back screw .....

We always mount a cant strip to the top of the cabinet before hanging it for a nailer.
