I’m putting crown on a ceiling height cabinet with radius end shelves. Has anyone ever applied crown to a radius ? I don’t want to put a gang of miters for it to make the radius. I don’t like the way that looks, I’d rather just keep it square. So should I just keep it square, or is there someone who has done a smooth radius crown molding.
Not sure if this is a good question or not. But I was always told, if you can imagine it, you can build it.

About the only way is to make a turning on a lathe to match the crown profile. Cut into quarters and finish to match the existing molding.
Much easier to 90 or 45 the corner. But not as slick!
Basswood did this. If it's what you could apply to your situation.
He made up a knife, applied some metal lath, screws into the straight stock to help anchor the mud, then maybe used durabond to form the curve around the bullnose corner.
Anymore info and seek out Basswood.

Paint grade or stain grade?
If paint grade, you could do like Basswood did in this thread and make a form for a solid plaster crown.*edit- somehow I didn't see Calvin's post- oh well, I will leave my post for the link.

This is a paint grade job. I like what Basswood did, but I'll try that another time after I get I find a personal project to try that out. Thanks for the input. I'll just keep it square or 45 it.
Nothing shows off the profile of a crown molding better than a 90º outside miter, anyway.AitchKay
