What Simpson bracket can be used to tie rafters to a girder?
What if the rafter is going to fall on two planes of the girder (a flat and a vertical)? Can I just cut a crows foot and nail top and bottom of crows foot without a connector?
Does a crows foot make a week connection?
Thanks for the help?

In Joe's pic 'A', a teco on each side will do.
I didn't do it....the buck does NOT stop here.
Crow's feet come two per crow.A bird's mouth is a beak. Otherwise known as a pecker.

A "crow's foot" is a piece of electrical hardware (old time) that is similar to a pipe flange, but has three raised toes with screw holes and a center piece that has pipe threads (!/4", 3/8" or 1/2") to accept a down rod for a hanging ceiling light.
The raised three prong allowed the braided lamp cord to pass from the splices on the knob and tube wiring throught the beaded wooden ceiling , then through the crows foot and down the lamppipe to the fixture.
What's wrong with you guys....don't you know anything?! ;>)

Let's define terms to be sure we are all on the same page.
A crow's foot is the pencil mark I make to indicate where I want to make my square line to cut on.
A bird's mouth is the nagular notch we normally make to let a rafter seat on top of a wall top plate
A girder is_______( your turn)

That's a tick mark over here!

What your talking about I assume is the Birdsmouth and the level cut sits on top of the girder and is notched where the back part of the cut will sit up against the side of the girder.
Is it something like A OR B in the drawing?
A is it. What fasteners are needed? Thanks for the drawings.
Thought I just mentioned them, a Teco[corner bracket] each side works here. If underside of rafter isn't exposed, cut about an 1 1/2" flat on the bottom and set it in a standard hanger.

You're absloootlee right........A CROWS FOOT is used to mark the starting point of the BIRDS MOUTH if not then ya might end up needin a CROW BAR and CLAW HAMMER and possibly a CATSPAW to remove the missaligned framing member. Then there's the infamous DOG LEG which shouldn't be confused with DOG EARED................ Would anyone like to continue?I know what yer thinkin ......theres always a smartass in every bunch !ITS TOO DANG COLD HERE IN OH. TO DO MUCH OF ANYTHING ELSE ......SORRY.l Lets see 'girter' doesn't that have something to do with a gals figure?

Ain't never figured it out yet, but when I frame up a wall it usually has a dog-leg in it.Knowledge is power, but only if applied in a timely fashion.
Okay, now when's the last time you used horse feathers?
oooo
there's something I haven't thought about in a looong time
its gotta be about 25 years since I last used any horse feathers.
and I have no idea why they're called that.
Shep-
It's probably about that long for me too. I guess about five years ago I saw a bundle in one of the siding yards and it brought back memories. I have no idea where the name came from, always thought it was interesting though and wanted to see how many people had a clue. Glad I fired up a few rusty synapses...
I didn't know they were even available anymore.
Not much call for roofing over shakes.
not that I do roofs anymore, anyway
Thanks for your help.
