Been looking to upgrade from my Chevy van to a cube van recently.
I’ve been interested in a used Penske cube with a Chevy Sahara chasis but recently I been seeing alot of Isuzu turbo diesel boxs.
My question is does anyone have a realistic idea of the mpg’s of these vehicles?
Right now I get 10 mpg no matter how I drive the chevy van and it has no power to speak of but it holds all my stuff (if packed just right)
Would really like to get a Sprinter used, but they’re not available yet.
Any info on these vehicles, good bad or otherwise would be appreciated.
Thanks
Dan

Dan,
I once had a Ford cube van with the gas V-10. It got 6 mpg in town, 9 on the highway. I heard that the Chevys were 1-2 mpg better, with the 5.7 V-8 gas engine, but hearsay is not ironclad evidence.

We have 2, a 3/4 ton and a one ton. They are cut away units with Spartan tool box/box van configurations on them. Both have 350 engines, automatics, air, PS and around town both get 10 MPG and 11 on the highway. DanT
My co. van is a 99'GMC savanah 1 ton
(duel wheels) with the biggest gas motor they make (454?)
When I first got it I checked the mileage and it was
between 6-7 mpg. I haven't checked it again since I'm not
paying for the gas I wasn't to concerned about it.
Here is a link to picture I posted before of the rear.
Another thing I really like is the cab over, you can put
alot of stuff up there that you don't use on a frequent basis.

With that big motor I can have it loaded to the gills and I really
can not tell it is loaded. I believe the gas mileage doesn't change
much as I was consistently getting about 200 miles to a fill
up(approx. 30 gallons)
If you have any more questions ask away as I really can't think
of any thing else to add that might help in your decision.
The Sprinter would destroy just about anything mentioned so far on gas mileage. It might be worth springing for a new one, and you can start running biodiesel in it too.
