Please help,
I have a master bath remodel in which the customer wants cultered marble (1/2″ plastic 🙂 ) wainscoting on the walls. I did an internet search and can only find references at real estate sites. None of the manufacturers list wainscote as a product, but I know it exists. Does anyone know a manufacturer or retailer of such.
Thank you,
Ashley

Hey Ash
The stuff I'm familiar with can be cast in any size you order, or cut onsite. Polyester resin with marble dust mixed in.
Tell me if I've got this right. The marble would be used in the panels with a painted frame work? Stock profiles in paint-grade moldings would form the frame, marble would be in the center.
Is that what you had in mind?

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the response, but I need wainscote not frame and panel. The customer has seen this in Texas. It is wainscote that comes in sections has edging and chair rail that is premade and slips onto the sections. Supposedly this is a stock item, only I have not been able to find the store yet.
Thank you,
Ash
Ok, I'm in Texas. Where did the client live? Any idea of the mfgr or any other details?

The quick answer is ... no problem, that will work fine. You will probably find that the mfgr is not real creative, so you may have to work with what they sell you.
Look in the phone book for countertops. If you ask enough questions, you can find who the local (or closest) supplier is. Where are you? Near a big city?
We have a mfgr here who does bathtubs, sinks, countertops with and wiothout sinks, and shower/bathtub walls. So whgat you want is to buy some shower walls in a certain specific size. As long as your needs are for flat panel with sizes that are within their capabilities, it should be reasonably cheap. If you try to get them to mold the panels with shaped edges (other than a simple roundover), it could get very expensive.
One note of caution ... I have found that the flat panels are not a consistent thickness. The face is decently flat, but the thickness varies from about 5/8" to 1/4".

There is paneling that has a faux marble look. It could work if you were doing frame and panel, or areas less than 8 feet in width. It would need a chair rail, which could be ceramic tile or wood. It may be acceptable to the taste of your client.
Or laminate.

In my Yellow Book, cultured marble is listed under "Marble"- Cultured". It's a standard here in sheets for shower walls. Made by the same shops who make cultured marble vanity tops with integral bowls.
