i’m building a huge shower, walls and cieling are cult. stone (river rock) the dude at the stone supply gave me a sample sealer to try, but it is laquer??? it is made for cult. stone cement or real stone, so it says. i have never had good luck when laquer and water meet (e.g. turning white-ish) any other suggestions of what may be used? durability and longevity are the goals here of course. i guess i will apply this laquer to a test piece and submerge it in water for a week or so? i still have some time before i’m ready to apply a sealant. any thoughts?

I've built several showers with native stone and I have always sealed them with a clear industrial concrete sealer. Nasty stuff, but it holds up...it gives the "wet" look and brings out the color in the stone.
I've never done a shower with cultured stone, but bear in mind that the sealer has to be very good and thorough on the stone AND the mortar lines, or you will have a cleaning nightmare!
The sealer I have used in the past, and am nearly out of is called Agri-seal and it was formulated for sealing concrete floors in food prep plants and canneries. I'm not sure it's still available.
However, I have used Benjamin-Moore's clear concrete sealer on a couple of exposed aggregate sidewalks and porches....both times brushed on 2 coats and after 4 years, both projects look like new.
The Ben-Moore sealer is an Acrylic, but, like the Agri-Seal, emits NASTY fumes, so in an enclosed area like a shower, be sure you ventilate, open windows, run a fan and wear the appropriate respirator....and on this, I'm dead serious!
hey thanx wormdrive, yea the laquer just doesn't sound good to me i'll hop on over to benny moore and check it out, AND make sure i have new filters on my respirator fo sure! i still need to decide on the wet look or dry look i'm leaning towards wet i think it will darken the stone enough to get a more "cave" type feel going.
