How about some how-to. New construction. Upstairs hallway with trusses above at 2/0 centers. Bottom of chords about 9/0 above floor. Perpendicular to trusses, a curved vaulted ceiling has a 48-inch radius, and with hallway width about 6′-6″, the rise at the center of the vault is about 7-1/2″. With insulation above, the code will mandate a thickness of 5/8″ Should we wet-form sheets and rock it with 1/4″, then 3/8″ with staggered joints? Do any drywall sheet products bend more readily than others?

Absolutely, 1/4" flex board from USG takes the cake as the most flexible board out there. Also the most expensive. Tips the scales at about $20 to $25 per 4x8. Brutal.
*ever thought of expanded metal lath and skim coat plaster ?or, even durabond.....get a pool trowel for the curves....
*b WBA At Your ServiceGene, I guess I could help out a little more, here. I'm not sure how you are coming up with a 48" radius if you have a 6'6" wide room with a 7 1/2" rise in the middle, but no matter. If you did rock this with 1/4" and 3/8" you would not need to wet any of the sheets. Sometimes we do these single layer with 5/8", but it requires a few days of prep. The 5/8" drywall (one piece) is laid over a 2x4 that is supported on its ends. The sheet is laid face down just like on the ceiling. It takes some time, but the board will curve nicely over the 2x. Sometimes it requires 2 2x4's spread apart to help prevent breakage of the board. High humidity promotes the best effect, this can be artificially created by i lightlymisting the back of the board occasionally with some water. It doesn't take much. Just be patient.
