Custom kitchen vent hoods – how?
Hello,
I am intend to build a kitchen vent hood similar to the pic, and am looking for direction. Is it as simple as building wood framing and sheet rock around a purchased hood, or is there more to it? What is a good source for a hood? Obviously, I don’t care what it looks like on the outside as it will be enclosed. Are there any detailed articles or books on this subject?
Thanks,
Todd

I have done a couple of these. It's as simple as you think it is. For the blower, use Best by Broan. I think the model number is PK191? It is by far the easiest to install. You can get it with the liner or not. Just make sure you understand how things go together, and what the dimensions are before you cut anything.
Good luck.
Wolf and Viking both make great inserts. 1200 cfm fan needs make-up air source to work best. I have a Wolf 54" and love it.
In the past, I have done some just like that. we always used the liners that are made by "vent-a-hood". These were expensive homes and the price for a hood was not an concern. They are night and day different from the off the shelf hoods. Boy, do the suck out the sttem/smoke. They are worth the money, unless you only want it for show
Thanks for the help!Todd
For my kitchen I bought the Venta-hood motor unit and built a copper liner inside a ply shell (my kitchen is painted). In hindsight if it were possible I would fit an exterior motor unit as most 600 -800 cfm tend to be noisy including the venta hood
