I have a client that wants one of those high-fashion custom range hood / range niches. The look is what you see on all the kitchen magazines – tiled behind range with shelf; hood looks like plaster or stucco, with lots of trim, both wood & ceramic; corbels of plaster or cast stone on either side of range “supporting” the hood above.
Does anyone have a reference as to plans or specs to buildspews you have to get the inner hood custom made by sheetmetal shosheet metalhere a source for these? One thought is to have inner hood custom fabricated, and use one of the attice duct moatticfans to power it. Still would need some guidance on sizing, shape, what type of light to install in it,etc. Anyone have plans out there? Thanks.

John, Many of the range hood or kitchen ventilation units manufactorers make inserts that work with custom details. Check the web or your local supplier for info. As far as size and detail that is dependent on factors such as range size, client's design requirement, and framing/venting.
I just finished framing one for a client where we used a standard Viking 48inch stainless hood and built a plywood shell around it. We hung the shell separate from the hood and covered the exposed plywood with duro-rock then tile. The difficult part of the operation was running the 10inch duct work through the chase. Make sure you provide adequate clearance for your ductwork. Hope this is helpful. walk good david
*John,Do a search on custom range hoods and take note of some of those manufacturers. Better than tylenol for the potential headache. It seems there are some that don't produce what you pay for.
