Hi
I am planning to replace an existing customtiled shower stall, and know that the pan is shot. I want to do the work myself, but am looking for a good visual reference manual to show me the best way to create a water tight pan and substrate that I can then tile over.
All the bath, tile books I have seen, show a pre-formed pan that cannot be tiled over, or suggest I contact a professional for this job.
Any help is appreciated.

Check the Taunton book "Setting Tile." It tells all you need to know to go into the business.
*A good reference is the Tile Council of America Handbook. It lists all the different installation methods, has diagrams, and specifies work to be done, by which trade, and which materials to use.You can get a copy from any tile supply house. That is, they'll order it for you. Or, you can write to TCA at: POB 1787 Clemson, SC 29633-1787.
*Try this link to a previous JLC page. Pretty good info, detailed, with illustrations.
