How neat does it have to be? usually a lip covers a good half inch all around. if you are worried about damaging the cabinet, my favorite tool for this kind of surgery is a router. just jig up some type of straight edge to guide the tool, and you will get a nice smooth cut without a lot of stress on cabinet frame. For quickest work, a jig saw would be faster, though. You may have to remove doors on nearby cabinets to have a flat enough surface to run the tool along.
*Hi Mack, I was just wondering is the opening too small on all 4 sides or 2 sides only. If the opening needs to be taller, and depending on how the divider rails were installed it may be possible to carefully remove a rail and down size it on the table saw, then reinstall it into the face frame. If that isn't possible Rich's method sounds like the way to go. MDM.
*Mack,At the risk of sounding rude.........If you have to ask, you might want to hire a carpenter.Ed. Williams
