I went to Knots and didn’t get very far on this.
That being said, anyone in the Chicago area have the capability of cutting up a log for future woodworking use?
I’m in the process of cutting down a Russion Olive tree. Dark wood, possibly very figured. I would love to make some crafts out of it someday. It’s about 10′ long and 12″ – 18″ wide.

Try contacting WoodMizer. They have a network of sawyers with portable mills that can come to your location and saw it up. I've been in the network since I got my mill in 2000. Another place to check is on WoodWeb.com Hope this helps.

You can get pretty cheaply ($40) a guide that you put on a chainsaw that will allow you to rip it.

I did that a few years ago with a white pine log much bigger than the one you are dealing with. It took a few hours, but it did the trick. I didn't bother getting a rip chain, since it was a "one-timer", so it went slower that it would have if I'd had one.
I think Wood Mizer keeps an index of owners by geographic region. You could try there as well.
