Doe anyone have a good daily job log that they would like to share? Something that would keep track of phone calls made, what they said, weather, trades who were on site, and so on? Preferably in an excel workbook so you are not always creating paper, we are a green builder. I can build a rake wall, but excel forms kick my butt.
Thanks!

I've used pocket recorders for many years, to keep track of all aspects of my work. The latest one, a few years old now, is a digital Sony, model # ICD-8300. It has more capacity and functions than I've ever used, runs forever on a couple of AAAAs.
One nice feature is the choice to use voice activation. I can pick it up and speak into it while driving, without taking my eyes off the road. If it's in my shirt pocket and it's quiet in the truck, it'll record clearly enough as is.
Recorders make it very easy to keep a record. You can write or type it up daily if you like, or whenever. You can also download and edit the voice recordings on your computer.
My workload has never gotten complex enough to require a really formal journal so a legal pad on a clip board is my hard copy. Old fashioned these days, I'll admit but still very effective as a personal reference.

I've kept a daily planner since 1982, when I was a co-op student. Used to be a desk calender, then a DayTimer; evolved into simply a Word document, one per month; updated at least every other day.
Forrest - still waiting for someone to say, "And who did you call on April 17, 1987?"
I'll know.
Who did you call November 12, 1981....at 2:36 PM

I was still in HS! Started my co-op job (and calender) in 1982.
Forrest - not THAT old
What, you didn't have anybody to call in high school. <g>

I think you can get Day Timer software these days to run on your PC.
