We had a theft problem in the new homes we were building. Materials and tools would be liberated at night. I found a way that has helped so far….. Get a little red battery powered flashing light, like a bicycle rear light, and put it on the wall opposite the front door. Then in big letters on each door write “REMEMBER TO TURN OFF THE ALARM”. Of course there is no alarm as it would be a nightmare to control for most of the project, but the thieves don’t know it! I guess they go to the next house. The subs just turn it off in the morning and on at night.

One of my guys recently had the whole tool box taken from his truck on a job site in the country when there were only other subs on site. He was on the other side of the house from where the truck was parked and was the last to leave. Went to put his tool belt up and there was nowhere to put it.

Work hard, play hard, sleep hard, wear glasses if you need 'em.
Tom, I htink that's a real creative idea, and would work well in some situations. But what comes to mind is exactly what grantlogan said
Most of the guys around here who have been ripped off are pretty certain that it's subs or ex- employees.
