Danfoss thermostatic radiator valves
I live near Boston and my house has an oil-fired, 1-pipe steam system with cast-iron radiators. The radiators do a fine job of warming the downstairs, but overheat the upstairs.
I would like to install the Danfoss “thermostatic radiator valves” but can’t find a supplier who will sell to me directly (I’m not a plumber or HVAC contractor). My local plumbing supply house has never heard of them. Any suggestions?
Another problem — one of my upstairs radiators is tucked inside a dormer. The valves will fit all of my free-standing radiators except the one inside the dormer. There’s not enough room on the vent side of the radiator for the TRV assembly. Any suggestions on this one?
Thanks.

look at this site http://www.plumbworld.co.uk/1358-753 and if you can get them to respond to you tell me how you did it. The prices are really too good to be true but I've had no luck with them replying to my attempts to place an order
Well here's a trick to get the parts you need . If you have a supply house that will sell to you & they haven't heard of the part your looking for. They usually have an account set up at other supply house & can buy from the people that you can't. Find who is the rep in your area & see if "your" supply house can buy from them , then have them will call it for you.
I have a few friends in the Danfoss distribution chain...what part of the country are you in.

Have you tried Watertown Plumbing Supply? Great people, very big store, I know they have thermo valves for steam rads, and they sell to anyone.

Yep, in fact I just purchased some from them. They didn't stock Danfoss, but were able to order the Honeywell-Braukman's. They work great (and are a bit cheaper than the Danfoss TRV's.)
One thing I learned the hard way, though: Use "straight" air vents as opposed to the "angled" ones. The angled ones tend to trap the condensate and make for lots of noise (more burping than hissing).

Excellent - I've always liked those guys. How much were the valves?
Well, you buy the parts separately (valve body, thermostat head & air vent). i walked away with 3 complete units for about $200. not bad considering we're no longer roasting upstairs!Toolfanatic (a.k.a. The man formerly known as "Toolfreak")
