Deal at HD – (2) 4.5″ Bosch Grinders $79

JulianTracy | Posted in Tools for Home Building on March 18, 2007 04:51am

This may be of interest to some of you..

HD has a two pack of the Bosch 4.5″ grinder with confort grip including (2) Bosch 4.5″ diamond cutting wheels.

The single pack cost $69 and you can get two complete kits for $79.

Just the Diamond wheels would cost you $28 apiece. That’s like getting the grinders for $11.50 each.

Not a clearance – heard about it from someone else in another forum and saw them today in my local Home Depot.

I saw that and thought it was just 1 grinder and two diamond wheels - worth a closer look...

Treat every person you meet like you will know them the rest of your life - you just might!

    Hi Julian
Where did you see this advertised? I went to the HD website and can't find it there? Was it in a flyer?

Go to the store and look for it. Soem folks saw them at the Pro-desk. In the store near me they were on an endcap near the power tools. It's a shrink wrapped package of two grinder boxes with a promo sticker on it that says:"Bonus! Free extra grinder and 2 free diamond wheels!"Bummer of it is - I just bought that darn diamond wheel for $28 a few months ago...Tempting, but I already have a HD Hitachi 9amp grinder and recently found one of the Metabo made Ridgid's on clearance at HD for $50 - so I have two grinders already.Good luck - great deal if you can get em.JT

        were they made in China...

that deal isn't around here...Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming<!----><!----><!---->

If it's at HD, it's made in China.  Harbor freight has a higher percentage of USA tools than HD.  I went there and looked for the deal, but no go.  Didn't see any employees to ask, except a couple young guys, one of which was consoling the other over his breakup with his girlfriend after she took up with his former friend. I left feeling kinda dirty or guilty or something not good just for entering the store.

          1. JulianTracy | Mar 21, 2007 04:11pm | #12

I wouldn't be giving Harbor Freight many props - I don't think anything they sell is made in the US.I used to be wowed by their catalogs - but when I finally went into a physical store - what a dissapointment - couldn't find a single thing worth buying other than maybe sanding sponges and glue brushes...The Bossch grinder's ref. in the deal are in fact made in China, but for the price of $79 for 2 of them with 2 diamond blades - that's a deal that can't be beat no matter how you stack it up.Plus, you've got Bosch behind you for service and support. It was sortof of a bummer to see that Bosch was starting to make the 1587 jigsaw in China though, and I'll bet HD was the driving force behind that move (and the grinder deal).Harbor Freight stores give me a bit of a dirty feeling when I'm in there - they have that lingering oily smell to them that makes your stomach ache a bit if you are there too long.JT

They finally showed up in my local HD Monday, and I got mine.  It's a nice grinder with an extra $20 dry cutting blade for block, stone, etc.  I kept one and took the other to a neighbor who does some woodwork.  If he decides to keep it, I will have a pretty good deal.  At the price, if he doesn't keep it, I will just mount a different blade in each grinder.  I still have my old Makita grinder, which works like a champ too.  Maybe I will set up a contest to see if I can acquire more grinders than routers.

Edit:  Actually, there is an extra $20 blade for each of the grinders, if that was not clear.

I saw them today at the HD in Hamden, CT.  The workers there were even saying how it was such a great deal but nobody was noticing it.  There was a whole display of them there, kind of buried in the tool aisle.

            Hope this helps. Rich.

I'm getting ready to pick up a new 4.5" grinder and a diamond wheel for a project that is ever so slightly too big for my 4"  so this is perfect timing.  I'll check it out.

I couldn't find them either, then they closed the store at 7:00.  So I went to Lowes to look around, and they dont even sell the 4 1/ bosch grinders.  So I bought beer instead at the drive thru.

Thanks a bunch, picked a set up today.

And by the way, make sure the checkout person doesn't try and ring both up.  Mine didn't believe me when I stopped her, and she had to call someone and double check.

I've not been able to find this deal.

Is it two grinders in the same box?  Or a special coupon or deal to sell two grinders in two boxes for one price?

My local HD has one grinder in a box with a free diamond wheel, but knows nothing about this deal.

      Thanks.

      1. JulianTracy | Mar 22, 2007 07:23pm | #18

They are shrink-wrapped together with a larger (official) sticker proclaiming the free xtra grinder and the free (2) wheels.Te two stores I've seen them at have them on an endcap, not always near the regular grinder section.JT

I found a pair and bought them In Clifton Park, NY.  Bit of a hassle, apparently they are SUPPOSED to go on sale in April.  The store had a bunch in the overhead and the tool manager said they couldn't sell them yet.  The pair I got had been left down by mistake.

        1. mike585 | Mar 23, 2007 06:47am | #20

I saw them today in Wilton (6 exits north). They had about a dozen shrink wrapped as 2 for 1 for $79.  I'm trying to find someone who needs a grinder. I only need 1.

Put a wire brush or metal grinding wheel on one, diamond on the other.

      3. Stilts | Mar 25, 2007 07:37pm | #22

Mine wern't even shrink wrapped together.  It was just two normal grinder boxes sloppily stuck together with some packing tape, which is why the person tried to charge me for both.

Tried to find them in Glastonbury Ct Homers.........no go. Working in Newtown CT, so I stopped in Waterbury's Home Depot, and there they were.Sold one to a buddy........$40.00 I have 4 grinders now, but it is such a good deal.Coming out of Homers I found this place. http://www.tools-plus.com/I ttok a walk around, picked up a couple things, and told the clerk that I was impressed by their stock. He asked me if I had been upstairs.I said, "this place has an upstairs?". Nice place, good selection of tools. Rod

I found a set.  Ironically, I was trying the HDs in my area that have pro desks.  Happened to be at the mall (she MADE me go :-), tried the HD there that has no pro desk and caters exclusively to consumers, and they had them.  Go figure.

They also wanted $3 per sheet more for OSB than the 'pro' store 3 miles away.  Go figure.

I went looking for them the first day or two this thread was running. Nobody knew anything about it. Stopped in a couple of times, never saw them. Finally asked a guy today, and he says, "We got a dozen of 'em in a week or two ago, sold out in a day".
Oh, well, I didn't really need another one. Or two.

The flier was in yesterday's paper here, they were sold out of them today.

A small display box at the Prodesk, empty.

Guess I don't need to figure out why I need 4 grinders since they sold them all.

            Damn, missed a good deal.

Bingo! Got one. First store I went to I gave them the SKU and the system said there were two, but the tool guy said they sold out. Another store showed as having 12, so he called them to confirm and they said they had plenty. So I went over there and sure enough, they had plenty! :)Handyman, painter, wood floor refinisher, property maintenance in Tulsa, OK

Costa Mesa, CA -  HD on MacArthur has them.

Or had them as of last Thur.  Two single boxes, shrink-wrapped together.  At the Pro Desk.  Bought two, sold one to a chap on my crew.  Other crew chief saw it, wanted one, scampered off and scored.

Our local paper has a HD tool sale flyer with these featured.  Would expect they have some back stock.

Have been looking for this since there was an alert posted on BT.  Useful forum. The ToolBear

I have to share my experience trying to find this Grinder deal.

I have at least 6 Home Depots within a 10 mile radius(Northside of Chicago), and Boy, did I pick the wrong one!

I grabbed a copy of the ad inside the front door and took of for the tool section.

I could not find the two grinders so I found a helpful (?)HD Associate to guide me to this fantastic deal. and here is the conversation took place:

Me: "I am looking for this Bosch 2 grinder promotion"

HD A: "No,  it is one grinder and two wheels"

Me: "No, I have the ad right here it is clearly 2 grinders and 2 wheels look at the picture"

HD A: "No you can't read Spanish (I had picked up the Spanish Language version of the promotional ad), it says one grinder two wheels."

Me:" I CAN read Spanish' and it says two grinders and two wheels, Can you look it up and see if you have any?"

HD A " Well lets go over to the grinders and look"

Me: "Well I looked there already, but OK."

HD A: "Oh here it is!"

Me: No, that's just one grinder, and it is a Makita"

HD A: "How about this one?"

            Me: "Ryobi"

HD A:"Let's look on the end cap, Here it is, $99 dollars"

            Me: "Yeah. that's a Saw."

I kid you not.  We did look on the computer and found they had either 1 or 3 in stock but she had no idea where to look.  So I left empty handed.  I can't count how many times that has happened in the last 4 or 5 years. Just put stuff back on a shelf and walked out in frustration.

I know, I know, I should have raised a stink, seen a supervisor , made them locate one at another store and hold it for me?etc.... But What good does it do?  It is a Sunday afternoon, I don't want to spend all day tracking one down. It is a great deal that I want to take advantage of, but I don't want to wait the 90 minutes it is going to take to get an answer.  It is not something I need.  I just want to go in the store, locate the item they are advertising, pay for it and go home.  Just like I am able to do at Target, or Macy's or Best Buy. Not an argument telling me I am wrong about the the promotion.  I just don't get that anywhere else. And it happens all the time.

It is so frustrating dealing with a staff that lacks any basic retail training.  My experience is the same as many people on this board.  If you go to HD you are cannot really expect any help from most of the Orange aprons.  Untrained, uncaring, and unmotivated in many cases. But what can you expect, when HD pays minimum wage or close to it.  I have had plenty of experience with good staff there (usually at the pro-desk). But the bad outweighs the good.  If I can't find what I want, I just walk out, rather then invest the time it is going to take to get an answer.

I didn't mean to turn into Debbie Downer in this post.  Just venting a little I guess.  Hey maybe I will try another store this week.  Enjoy your Grinders you lucky Dogs!

I feel for you! I already know how it is sometimes and so instead of dealing with what you just dealt with, I took a different approach when trying to score this grinder deal. There was a reason I asked for the SKU number earlier in this thread. Thanks to rasconc's post I got it and thus armed with it, when I went to my Home Depot I just went straight to Customer Service counter. I didn't even bother going to the tools department. I asked, "Can you look up this SKU # and tell me if you have any or if another store does?"
They said, "Sure, what is it?"I gave them the slip of paper I had scribbled the SKU on, 853684.They saw that they had three in stock, and called the tool guy to bring one over to me. But the tool guy couldn't find them, and said they were out.Another store showed having 12, and they asked if I would like them to call that store for me, just to make sure. A phone call later, we learned they indeed had them and that one would be waiting for me.If you try and get one, scribble this SKU down, 853684, and do what I did. If nothing else, let them do all the work!Handyman, painter, wood floor refinisher, property maintenance in Tulsa, OK

I will take in the sku.  Just frustrated that it is so difficult to give them my money for what they advertise.
