We build a few decks each year with composite deck boards (heavy decks) and have gone through every fastener, bolt, and new gizmo out there to improve deck performance. The worst connection is the ledger board to brick wall. We use pressure treated pine framing and have used 1/2″ lag bolts in lead shields, wedge bolts( 5/8″ diameter concrete screws), 1/2″ drive pin expansion bolts. These are cases when posting up next to the wall is not an option.
Has anyone found anything they really like and trust?

I don't believe there's a legitimate way to attach a deck ledger to brick veneer, unless you can get an engineer to design a through-bolt system. Dig footers by the house, and make it free-standing.
