I’m about ready to order my deck materials for my deck. Originally, we were planning in Timbertech. Although I’m having reservations based on seeing my neighbors deck (Trex) having a lot of mold on it. We have the same exposure.
One consideration I need to keep in mind, the deck is fairly low to the ground. Some sections are about 8″ off the ground so I’m a little concerned about proper ventilation under the deck. Given the height, I’d use the Timebertech Twin Finish.
As far as other materials, I’m considering IPE and Cedar. In my area both are about the same price as the Timbertech. We are looking for a grey finish so I think IPE and Cedar should weather to grey after a year or so.
So I need some expert advice here…. given the height off the ground and potential issues with the composite decking would IPE or cedar be a good choice?

I don't recommend western red cedar for decking. It is very soft and I also had a deck with western red that began to show rot in some areas within 5 years...it was ssealed and maintained regurlarly. I have had good luck with Alaskan yellow cedar...much harder and will not rot. You still need to prestain and or seal before installation. I have had Trex smell like melting plastic on sunny decks.
