I will be tearing down a poorly built PT deck that is over a tar and gravel roof, which covers a screened in room at walkout grade. The most recent deck construction by the previous contractor filled the roof with holes because they nailed right through the roof. Now it leaks and compromised the entire structure. I plan on taking the whole thing down and starting from the ground up. I have already buried pipe to handle roof runoff on either end of the existing deck structure. A poured monolithic slab is good shape is located below roof/deck. Any ideas for the best way to rebuild a deck over roof. I anticipate using PT framing with TREX-type decking, and custom metal/TREX rail systems. I want to still have a dry area below, but don’t know the best and most economical way to do it? Rubber roof with deck on top? Suspend deck over rubber roof with parapet walls?
Thanks for the help.

If the deck requires support posts for beams and joists, install/attach those into the roof support first. Which ever roof type you use, hot tar or membrane (EPDM , rubber) seal around your deck posts as you roof. Then build your deck on top as normal. Be careful with nails under foot as you walk on the new roof.
My preference would be EPDM. Life span is fantastic, it's flexible, and remains elastic in cold climates.
