   Here's some info you might can use -

   For a "typical" deck, where the decking is applied perpendicular to the joists, the following approximate numbers can be used for guestimates.

   2 x 4 or 5/4 x 4 decking (16" centers) requires 610 fasteners per 100 square feet of deck.

   2 x 4 or 5/4 x 4 decking (24" centers) requires 440 fasteners per 100 square feet of decking.

   2 x 6 or 5/4 x 6 decking (16" centers) requires 400 fasteners per 100 square foot of decking.

   2 x 6 or 5/4 x 6 decking (24" centers) requires 280 fasteners per 100 square foot of decking.

   For diagonal, or parquet patterns, you will need more.

   This is for the decking surface only. You will need to calculate the supports and framing members separately. Design, material, and style of deck will also play an important role in determining the number of fasteners.

   I am doing a take off on a 1000 s. ft deck. In one of my many books and articles on construction, I remember reading a way to estimate the number of screws needed (plus 10 per cent) for the deck boards. Naturally, when I need the information I can not find it. As you can tell from my question, I am an amateur. But don't worry, when it comes time to build the deck, I'm going to hire a pro. Remember, ya don't learn it ya don't ask. Thanks
