I need to remove the old, nailed 2×6 boards from my deck frame so they can be replaced with a yet to be chosen composite material. I saw an add for a Deckboard removal tool in a Rockler catalog. The tool give the user an 18:1 mechanical advantage while it is placed on the joist and lifted up. The effort pops the board ( not sure if it breaks the board or pops the nails) and hopefully the joist stays intact.
Has anyone used a tool like this and would like to recommend it in place of a hammer and cat’s paw to remove all the nails/boards. Thanks

I'm with Mike. Cut between the joists, and pry up. I like a long crow bar, or mattock.

I bought it and used it on a 250 sq.ft. porch (2x6) and a smaller deck; I loved it. This week a will use it to tear off 2x6s from a 350 sq. ft. deck. It worked a lot better than the crow bar. But maybe I need a bigger crow bar.

I'm a little surprised to see you face screwing the new decking. Any particular reason?

Fair enough.
We've had success with a product provided by a local supplier. I can't remember the exact name at the moment, I think it's "deck clip"
