Can anyone steer me to a “how to” source to design a decorative side wall cedar shingle and installation? I can’t find the past article on the subject in FHB.

28313.1 is one post I found before the search function died on me.
Cedar shingle design is a subject that has been addressed here on Breaktime a number of different times in the past.
If you scroll down in the lower left corner of your screen there is a search function that will take you to previous threads dealing with whatever you type in the search bar.
If you type in 'cedar shakes', 'shingle design' or other keywords of the subject matter you'll get a supply of data from those old threads.
When it's working.
There is also an FHBissue guide to previous articles indexing alphabetically various subject headings.
To roam around in there just click on the Magazine tab in the blue topic bar across the top of the screen.
That's about the best we got for now.
Cheers

I think Rick Arnold or Mike Guetin wrote an article about cedar shingle designs.
Good luck

Geeze guys... They have the internet in Holland.
Doesn't most of the good stuff on the net originate there to begin with? ; )
I remembered you were leaving....couldn't recall to where or for how long.
According to the other thread, it looks as though all is going well for you. Glad to hear it! Even gladder to hear that you're still hangin' around us knuckleheads.
All the best!

Thanks, JD... Yea, so far it's been a lot of fun so far. It was a bummer missing the fest though. I do miss pulling splinters from my fingers too. Everything is brick here. But I should be back in a couple of years, assuming DW doesn't get too hooked on pancake houses... ;-)

This is why you should attend the annual fests. Last year we had a live demonstration of such things at Calvins house.

lukes,
Are you looking for a repeating pattern (scales, diamonds) or a picture in shingles?

sorry, i've been out of town, thanks for responses. i'm looking to create a side wall design of a bird or fish near the peak of a A-frame house. i need to understand the technique better in order to make the design. i already can install side wall shingle but am getting confused on adding some general detail to the interior of the design.
again thanks for the input.
There was an article in JLC on Decorative Shingling in the June 2006 issue.
lukes,
Here are a couple of old threads if the cut and paste works. First one describes the process...
