Hi everyone, I need your help. A customer of mine had a window break in their solarium, and they’re looking to replace. They had a one piece double paned thermal unit in the big space, but they’re looking for something operable, but still look decent in the space without clashing with the structure. Any ideas would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Dave.

Marvin will make whatever you can design for that.
how it operates may depend on where other ventilation is in that room. I have to assume something vents out at top, so a unit with lower larger awning would be good

That is what I would do. An operable down below a fixed on top. That way you still get the veiw at eye level.

With the adjacent patio I would be very careful NOT to use any sort of outswing window - casement windows and awnings with 'head height' sash projections would be out. I hate gliding windows but ....

Why not outswing? If you had kids or dogs that might damge it or get damaged from a corner you can just set something there. I don't know what the owners habits are but it should be considered when designing."There are three kinds of men: The one that learns by reading, the few who learn by observation and the rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves."Will Rogers
There's nothing quite like walking into the corner of an awning window set just above eye height but just below head height :o( I'm very careful to avoid such situations in design.

I thought we were talking about one down low. My mistake ;^) I like them down low so they pick up cooler air.
I worked on one once and from what I remember (not much) the cool air comes in low and goes out high. The interesting part was that the openings for the exhaust were supposed be twice as big as the intake due to air expansion.
This was a long time ago and I'm just a carpenter. I still use that concept in cooling houses when I can.
I also like to plant fragrant flowers near the low point so it is pulled in with the air.
I wear a hat outside and I hit things because of the hat brim hiding low objects from view. "There are three kinds of men: The one that learns by reading, the few who learn by observation and the rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves."Will Rogers
I used to work with an architect who remembers his archy class getting to meet the great Frank Lloyd Wright. They waited and waited for an "audience" and then the Great Man deigned to see them--but they had to hurry. So they're all running down steps along side the building and Jim runs right into the corner of an opened awning window and gashes his eyebrow. He says all he remembers about meeting FLW is holding a hanky on his eyebrow and trying not to bleed all over.
