Need to cut a bunch of holes in plaster and as was recommended here bought a diamond blade for my PC angle grinder. Problem is the DW blade I found at the Borg is too thin for the arbor nut on the grinder. You guys think it’s safe to use a washer to make up the difference or should I hunt down the PC blade?

Can ya flip the back washer/hub ? On my DW and HF grinders the backing washer has a fatside and a skinny side for thin blades and thick wheels..take a look.

Sorry, internet shorthand for Harbor Freight, cheap tools that are mostly disposable. The grinder is made by Chicago Electric, which is Tiawanses I think.

Nope... but thanks for the suggestions (already tried that ;) )
Porter Cable seems mystified as well... My grinder is brand new, but my owner's manual varies from the one online inasmuch as it doesn't make mention of a reversible inner flange (mine cannot be reversed) and my inner flange isn't the same as the one shown online. Curiouser and cursiouser... I'll let you guys know what happens!

Dewalt and Makita have no such problems .
I guess this says something for PC grinders.
Buy a dewalt grinder and it will run the heck out of diamond blades. BUying another grinder is a pretty good idea any way. I have three . They stay hooked up with different suff on them. I use the dewalt for sanding most all the time . It is also the one that runs the diamond blades.

My Hitachi needs a special ring as well when I'm running not only diamond blades but also thin, metal cutting wheels.

Sounds like you got a grey market, or even a black market tool.

Nope... Dieeeeerect from PC themselves. Their customer service people called me back and said that apparently there was a change to the inner flange, and ven though reversing mine will mean it doesn't engage the spindle I should do it (beats me how that makes sense). I'll try it and see what happens.
Dewalt sells an adapter washer for thin blades. I don't see why they won't fit other makes, or other companies should have them. Mine cost about $4.00
By golly, yer right! I have one too! I run a chainsaw type doodad in my DW...and needed that part..good call.

I've run into that probem with them and just make a washer/spacer work. As long as everything says centered you're o.k.
If you are going to work it real hard it's a good idea to make it so they can't become un-centered with flanges or whatever.
I have a Milwaukee grinder, and like the others have said, the outer nut/washer doodad is able to flip over for thin wheels. Doesn't look like it, but it does do it.
