Just wondering if anyone has build their own foam bases for the Kerdi system?
I am going to be remodeling my bathroom this coming year and will have an odd size shower.
I have access to a CNC router and can get various density foams, so the shaping won’t be a problem.
Any pointers? Anyone done this?
I am hoping to avoid the traditional mud base, to avoid adding weight. (The bath is on the first floor)
Any thoughts are most welcome.

hi Canoe
You should build a 6'x4' sloped 1/4" per ft down the 6' out of pink 2" foam and send it to me and i will let you know if it is a good idea. hehehe.
I think it would work great. The foam shower nooks come coated with a sprayed on sand finish to improve adhesion to thin set. You may want to skim coat it with rapid set for the same purpose.
Post some pics of the process.
Good luck Craig
For all the messing around, why not just put in a cement bed?
Easy and reasonably quick if you are comfortable working with cement.
Sucks when some idiot puts the system above it in wrong and you have to rip it out and schlep it down the stairs in pieces (dont know if you saw my "kerdi system failed" thread) but easy going up in 5 g buckets!
What size are you doing? You can use the kerdi kit as a start then extend out from there with a mud bed.
