do i have to go below the frostline
i want to build a 90’fence between the house and the pool. the fence is to be stone, roughly 18″ high with a 3′ picket fence on top of that.
can i build it “dry laid”? if so, how can i put the fence posts through the wall so that in the future if i need to replace the posts i can? is there some sort of “sleeve” that i can put them in? how can i put “dry laid” cap stones around the posts securely? my wife wants real wood. if rather, i should use mortar, do i actually have to go down below our 40″ frostline here in new jersey?
any help would be appreciated.

the beauty of a dry stacked stone row is that it moves with the soil, and you can always take it appart if you need to ... your overthinking this one ..
that's oddly comforting......thanks.any advice on the capstones? if they aren't through stones as they won't be around the posts?over thinking again?
if your using found material, look for L-shaped stones and fit them around the posts, have fun with it, and don't spend too much time trying to fit the perfect stone, it's faster just to do it, and if you don't like what you see after, re-arrange them ..
