howdy.
i recently bought a 102 year old house in north western colorado. the house is heated with propane hot water baseboard heat, which works as it should. the home is also heavily dependant upon our wood stove. the stove pipe goes up @ 3′ takes a 90% jog and vents directly into the wall into a masonary chimney. this chimney has a mid section that goes on a 45% angle which i found unusual (and maybe dis-heartening due to its age). the chimney apears to be in fairly good condition, with exception to that part above the roofline, which shall be re-pointed in short order. is it necessary to line this chimney? i got a quote from a local supplier for the flexable liner to be $25 / foot. i thought that to be a bit high. is my family in danger if i do not line this chimney?
thanks for your input.
