I have a 1600 sq ft ranch that needs a new furnace. Since I will be having a new furnace installed , I am going to have Ac installed with it. Problem is the ducts leading from the main plenum to the registers are only 3″ diameter. Do they need to be resized?
A couple of companies that came to estimate said the 3″ ducts would work with both heat and AC. while others said no way. The furnace would be an 80000 BTU combined with a 3 ton Ac unit.
Opinions please!

Are they flexible duct, or some kind of solid material?
I also have a small ranch - you might want to think of putting in return registers in each room along with new duct - if that has to happen. The return in each room will help fresh air enter while doors are closed.
