Dogboys back…..building speakers and Tube amps.
I haven’t been on here for awhile, My wife has been sick and it takes most of my time between taking care of her working and persuing my interest on those long winter days and nights. I have made reciently a Stereo tube amplifer and 2 pairs of speakers and have been repairing and rebuilding speakers in the last 6 months. The tube amp is a 16 watt per channel stereo = x 2 32 watts doesn’t sound like much but it powers several speakers I have and have built. Good to be back. I’ll post some photos later soon.

Welcome back
If you get time-take my two in the door speakers in the van and make them sound good again.
thanks.
Remove the speakers and turn them upside-down. You won't notice anything immediately, but there's a good chance that they'll improve after a few weeks.
I have rewound the voice coils on a few big drivers, but never have built any 'speakers' from scratch - except for some electro/hydraulic driven 160dB multi-kW monsters for vibration testing tables <G>
What type you build? Will be interesting to see what you come up with.
Seriously, though I know folks profess to be able to tell the sound difference between semiconductor and tube amps (warm and all that), but the last tube amp I built was in like 1962! A 400 kHz class D PWM amp can be built to mimic any other audio amp, DC to 20 kHz; migh t be some folks with better HF hearing though, then would need to go to MHz class D.
I'm sorry I think you thought I meant building speakers No I build speaker cabinets and install speakers I do build the crossover's though. and I agree with you somewhat about it being hard to know tubes sound better and that is not why I buil;t mine I built it because I can and it sounds great . Yes I could buy new amps that are new and with out tubes etc....and I do I have 4 surround amps and 2 surround systems and 2 stereo amps in our house all in differant rooms and shop But I enjoy those and some are great for movies But I love that I built my tube amp and that is sounds great and my cabinet I built is made of cherry from a local tree cutter on his portable band saw I milled it by hand with a hand planer and the experance was more than worth it and the bottom line and real point is I built it , it sounds great and I'm listening to it right now.
I milled it by hand with a hand planer
Must be nice to be young and energetic <G> Did that once with walnut like 45 years ago, would not even start now.
milled it
I dont consider myself to be young anymore now that I'm 54 years old. but I'm not dead yet .
Besides, those big-[JOBSITE
Besides, those big-ass tubes just look sexy.
