I am building my own custom doors and frames. I am looking for a jig which I can route the hinge locations in the frames, which are installed, and then match those same hinge locations on the doors to route the hinges. I have tried searching for these on FWW and FHB web pages and also the internet search engines with no real luck. Not sure is anyone has experience with any manufactured jig/template. thanks. |

I watched Norm use one of these last night on the New Yankee Workshop, to cut mortises on a new mahogany entry door he'd made. It looked pretty fool proof.

A 2nd vote for the PC set. I've got one... the setup is a tad confusing at first but built like a tank, works great. Sounds like just what you're looking for.PaulB
I find the Bosch set up a little easier to use than the PC... for whatever that is worth... but PC does sponsor Norm<G>

If you go to FHB issue # 53 April-May 1989 Page 38 "Production-Line door Jamb Setting and Door Hanging" You will fine exactly what you need. Tis guy has a great bench set up and it wont cost any 208 bucks. Us a 12" piece of cabinet grade plywood for a template.I have an old Skill templat thats a pain to use except for door replacement in existing frames. Not a production tool.
I agree with the plywood jig. I know guys who prefer them.
I have the Bosch jig but I finished houses for years.
If you plan on hinging more than 100 doors, buy a jig.
