I am having garage doors and openers installed. Doors are 8×7.
Where do I install the outlets for the openers?

i'd go back at about 9' from front wall and off center a foot.that way you can use it to plug a hanging drop cord etc into. the door opener should have about a 2' cord with it.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T
MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE
DUCT TAPE.
Just put it on the sidewall and run some #16 extension cord to it.That's a favorite in Toledo, and gives the HI something to bitch about <G>

Thanks for the off center suggestion. It meant more than the distance from header.

Not sure if there's that much difference with garage door hdwr, but with my 9' door the outlet is back 2'-6'' more than door ht.. so 11-6''.
Puts it just past the motor.

we're gonna fix him up, I found a roll of jap wrap, 337' of zip cord in various colors, a bunch of .29¢ receps, and some rusty romex staples,.

Don't forget masking tape to wrap where you twist the wires together and when you connect one length of zip cord to that old extension cord, be sure to push the wires through the little holes in the blades before taping them. :)BruceT

hey are the garage guys done yet ?.
.
.. . . . . . . .
Yes they were done about 1 Monday. Everything worked out great.
The outlets are about halfway between open door and closer head.
Being off center 1' was also a good plan that a couple guys on here mentioned doing.
Being off center is more important than the distance from the header the way I see it now.
Thanks for all your help before and now. Dallas
anytime D, I'll swing by and play with the buttons, say Hi to Barb for me.

I always put them 11' back in the center of the opening. Works every time!
Actually it's probably better to put it slightly off-center. You don't want the outlet to end up right above the opener where it's hard to reach.

Yes,I think off center 1' was the way to go.
Actually the rear of the motor is about 10' from the door so if you put the outlet at 11' it will be fine. I've been doing this for about 35 years.
Depends on how tall the door is.

Thats why we are speaking of a 7' tall door.
