Am looking at constructing a balcony onto an existing dormer. Balcony would be 12′ wide by 3′. It is on a third floor. There is 2′ of roof extending out from the dormer face. The roof is 6/12. Does anyone have any creative ideas of support for this balcony? This is a very wet climate( 75” of precip/yr) so don’t want to cantilever from existing floor framing.

Sounds interesting - can you post a picture of the situation? What is the existing roofing material? Is it an eave or a rake over the balcony-to-be? Weather (besides the big ol' rain)? Maybe a sketch?

Almost sounds like a good case for your angle iron balcony brackets.
Maybe a cantaleiver situation.
Here is a photo. The bay window is coming out, a slider going in.( 6-0x5-6) Angled posts back to the wall on the story below was the initial plan, but it would look pretty bulky. On suggestion was cable supports from above.
Plan on using Stratton Brackets to hold the rim joist to the house. Have been very happy with using these for several decks.
hopefully the pic attached this time
