I’m rewiring our kitchen addition and just ran about 80′ of 10-3 for the double oven. My father-in-law (who was noticeably absent while I was on my back in the crawlspace) saw it and said he thought double ovens needed 8 guage wire, not 10. Is 10 guage acceptable or should I pull it and go up to 8?

What is the amperage draw on the double oven? Check the unit and find the wattage then divide it by the voltage. So if you have 7000 watts divided by 220 volts you will get almost 32 amps.
Without checkin, I would think 8 ga.

That's a good formula, thanks.
I looked at the appliance and there isn't enough wire emerging from the conduit to read the size, but the wire inside the cover is twisted, not solid - which leads me to believe it's probably 8.

A-holes. Hey every group has to have one. And I have been elected to be the one. I should make that my tagline.
I couldn't find the nameplate as the oven is in storage in an overfilled barn. It would probably take less time to run 8 guage wire than it would be to dig the appliance out and look for the specifications.
I replied to the other thread: Sample of one -- the Subzero/Wolf double oven calls for a 50A circuit.

Don't guess on the size of wire needed. Depending on the amperage draw you made need 6ga.
There has to be a rating plate somewhere but if not you can (or someone can) ohm out the resistance heaters and get the resistance and then with another formula you can get amperage. Divide the voltage by the ohms and you get amps.

Ok...I will dig the appliance out and find the plate.
The install instructions should tell you what amperage circuit to use. They may be available online.

There should be a plate on the unit with the specs you need. There should also be an owner's manual, online if you lost the paper version. Looking at the wire and deciding won't really cut it...
