I’m installing a 40 gal electric water heater and will put it on a pan, just in case. I can’t drain the pan to the outside. How would i connect to a sanitary drain? There won’t be any water to fill a P trap. Do i need a backflow stop? Would that be enough?

Bll,
Do you suppose Troost is from around hereabouts? Not sure if I'd wanna be bragging about that street.....

Troost is on the blue side of state line. Well, almost. And yes, we do have running water over here.
I just looked up the ProSet Trap Guard. Looks like a good product but, referring to your later post, maybe too expensive for Troost Avenue. On the other hand, it would be installed in Fairway. Would that be OK?
Dunno, if it was Overland Park will probably require 3 permits and a stamped engineers drawing. But I'm a homeowner so wadda I know?

Thanks for the ideas. Troost isn't so bad. We have lots of tulips in the Spring time and, now that we have concealed carry, we hear fewer gunshots in the night.
i would think a 1" air seperation above drain would work .can you raise the height of pan by placeing on a foam pad
Is there a trap neaby? The reason i ask is because I have a similar situation.
I have a laundry washing machine nearby with a trap. I was planning on using that trap because it stays wet.

The combined shower/lavatory drain is nearby and I could easily install another trap and T. Does it matter that that would be the second trap for both the shower and the lavatory?
Head off the ceiling joist so the height of the heater goes into the ceiling above. The heater just has to be high enough so the base/ pan can drain into the laundry stand pipe.
