I have a client that has a house where run off from the sloped back yard has to be diverted before it reaches the foundation wall. I spoke to an engineer and he said dig out 4 to 5 feet deep about ten feet parallel and from the wall. Install ‘Big O’ weeping pipe wrapped in filter cloth and fill it with 1″ rock with a layer of clothe overtop of the stone before lawn is put in. The pipe should be sloped to one end and have some sort of drainage pit.
What do you think, thanks.

I think that the engineer should stick to driving trains.
Now this is based on the limited information from your post.
A) do the SIMPLEST thing first - Make a depression parallel to the house and a swhale upto the house from the depression. Thus surface water will divert around the house.
B) It sounds like soil and lawn will be put over the french drain. The french drain will capture water in the soil, but most of the problem will be surface water that will run over the lawn until it hit the house. Only a small fraction will enter the drain.
C) Why in the h*ll try to put in a pit on a sloping lot. You need to size the pit and worry about it becoming saturated. Run it to daylight.
D) if the problem is sub-surface water than I would want the french drain to be deeper.
Thanks Bill your idea is better.
