My step dad has 6 rental homes and has asked me to go around and clean out drier ducts on all of them.
What is the best way to do this? I was thinking shop vac but not sure that would do much good.
then thought maybe a leaf blower on the inside blowing out? Or maybe a combination of both.
I dont know the length of vents other then 1 as i am the person who installed that 1. Its at code maximum length .
ideas?

You can get cleaning brushes from the same companies that sell fireplace cleaning equipment. Also I think some places that sell appliance repair parts sell them.
And you might need a combination of the vac and blower, along with extensions, and plumbers snake in addition to the brushes.
Specially if you have one that is impacted. You might need the snake to help break it up so that the vac can get out more and the brush to clean it up.

I thought about those brushes but wasnt sure they would work going around 45* and 90* elbows. ?? do they do that ok?
Do they make a push pull type brush? i could snake a rope through and pull say a bristled ball?
I have only seen them in passing so don't know of the details of the brushes. Some place in the back of my mind I think I have seen a pull type, but really not sure..

If you can get at the ducting, it is easier to replace it than clean it.
If you installed it, what method was used to fasten the pipe joints? If you used duct tape, those joints will probably pull apart if much pressure is used.
I use a leaf blower, with a rag wrapped around the snout to seal it to the opening. Works well.

I got one of those brushes that go on the end of a drill . It came with 4 -3 FT extension . I used it on my bath and drier vents ( I hope PETA doesnt find out and charge me wit distruction of bird habitat ) it had an adapter for use with a vacuum. Worked like a charm just dont put the drill in reverse.
Well i guess ill try a combo of all, not expecting to be shiny brand new inside. Thanks all for the replies, we'll see how it goes next week.
