I have to bore about 240 3/8ths” holes into some mahogeny 5/4″ decking to screw off and then plug a section that can’t be fastened from the underside. I thought I had some decent bits, recently sharpened, straight, etc. but all they do is smoke at all rpms. Using a Milwaukee corded drill. Decking has been outside for a couple of years and it is hard. Any suggestions?

Are you sure you don't have the drill in reverse? <G>
Just kidding.
Sounds like your sharpening guy blew the job.
Either a brad point or forstner should do a nice clean job for you, but I'd suggest mounting your drill in one of the plunging type guides to ensure a nice round hole for the plugs.
