I read the active discussions on drip edge and have a question about gambrels.
Putting a conventional shaped drip edge on the bottom of a gambrel will mean 2-3 inches of unsupported aluminum, if the drip edge is to clear the facia. Is that a problem? is there a “special” drip edge profile you’d use in this case? Is this a case where “always” use drip edge might not apply?

Why would there be a void?

the roof sheathing ends at the facia (which is built up with a shadow board) When I lay in the drip edge, the bottom lip hits the facia because of the steep roof angle and leaves the "front" of the drip edge unsupported. I suppose I might "alter" the drip edge to reduce the overhang or remove the shadow board or just not worry about it.
this is all regular 4 1/2" white alum drip edge

Mike,
Great work, and photos! If its all the same to you, I am NOT showing those to my wife. There'll be more of that "It's a barn" vs "I think it'll looker nicer if..." arguing going on.Thanks
