I often see on many homes that water drips off the roof an gets BEHIND the gutters. The water then drips down the back of the gutters and drips down onto: entry way , porch , etc. Some gutters systems that I have seen have an alum flashing that extends up and under the drip edge. These systems are rare on houses that I visit.
Can anyone offer a remedy to keep the roof water in the gutter. On my own home I tried to bend up the drip edge so falling water will drip/run into the gutter but water continues to get behind. Any thoughts will be welcome. My area is RI and it has been pretty rainy the last week.

You could move your gutters up so the back edge is behind the drip edge.
Or cut some flashing material that goes behind the drip edge and extends down into the gutter.
Hey, I was going to say that!;)Moo-ve over and we'll do a duet

Now if someone would convince the prefab gutter manufacturers and the guys with the continuous gutter machines to form all their gutters with a lip extension of 1-2" on the back side, that would fit up under a drip edge, this problem would go away.
Think so? The developement of fooproof products only breeds a stronger variety of fool, ya know! LOL

Thats because they are not sealed. If there are aluminum gutters, apply clear silicone along the edge (when it stops raining of course!) of the back gutter. The fir gutter suppose to have blocks behind it to let the wood dry (fascia and gutter) so a little water should be fine.
IMO, that'd be a waste of time. Silicone will break bond from metal in a couple of years because of the thermal movement of the metal, and it does nothing about the fact that the gutter was installed wrong in the first place. it needs the shield to direct water and protect the fascia.ooops, What the heck am I talking about. Most gutters only last a few yeawrs anyway! Go ahead and use the silly cone.;)

In a perfect "World" you can use gutter flashing, but all houses are not the same. Preferably I would not use a aluminum gutters, but my understanding is for most gutters are not install right.

I was only suggestion silicone because it is easy. and yes silicone does not adhere to well for painted wood, but does work.....aluminum fascia works well............
I don't believe I've ever seen the house where gutter flashing could not be used. not always easy, but always doable.
