I am designing a new driveway for my home to accommodate the growing number of drivers here. Drive is 100′ long and I plan to keep it single-laned but then add an apron off to the side for all cars to park on. How much width per car should I figure for a comfortable but reasonable fit? For example, if I make it 18 deep by 50 wide, is that a good size for 5 cars?

Most code-defined parking spaces are 9' wide by 18-19' long.
8' width can be used, but it can be narrow if anyone drives wider rides, dualies, the like.
That help any?

That's perfect...if their drivers have enough room to straighten out the vehicle as they enter the space. That would add at least twenty-five feet but you should do some experiments in empty parking lots with drivers of average skill, and a tape measure.
Pete,
I'll be happy to come visit and park in your driveway to show you how much room you'll need. Vince Carbone

Wide enough, but not quite deep enough, depending on the vehicle.
9 x 19 = compact car parking
10 x 20 = standard car parking
I'd go for closer to 20 feet deep considering that, for instance, a Chevy Suburban LT1 or similar is already 18 feet long, vs. standard vehicles which run 15'-16' long.

18 feet works if the bumper overhangs the grass. 10 ft wide would be minimum. Ditto earlier comment about room to turn into the space."Put your creed in your deed." Emerson

50' is wide enough for 5 cars. I'd go at least 20' deep for the parking area but you might consider going deeper if you have the room unless you're planning diagonal parking instead of perpendicular (to the main drive). The reason I'm saying that is the typical parking lot aisle is 24' from parking stall to parking stall. If you only have the width of a single lane driveway to back into, you'll be doing a lot of 3 and 4 point turns to get headed out the driveway.
doors dingers, or do you care?.....depends on who's parking.....10ft should be good.....we did one at 12' for a motor home
I'm not flippin' you off.........just counting cubits
10 x 20 with a 24" turning / backing radius
unless vince shows uo...then double everything
two cars 16 feet wide, and its real tight
