This is an amateur question, but is there such a thing as a recessed light designed specifcially for drop ceilings? I am hoping to find something I can just cut into the tile like the typical remodel recessed lights.
I assume these probably aren’t best in drop ceiling tiles because of the thickness of the tile.

Forget about tile thickness,if the lights are supported by only the tile,it'll cause premature sagging.I've seen that in drop ceilings we've torn out.
Cans are used in drop ceilings all the time. The cans used have special brackets that support them on the rails, so they don't put any weight on the tile itself.
I Know, but I think he was comparing it to reg. remodeling cans which hook only to the drywall/plaster.
Juno and probably Halo have susp. ceiling ends on their cans. They hook over the ceiling metal.

Troffers, or open style? The open kind seem to collect dirt and dust on top of the lens. Troffers are too expensive for my taste. ;-)
Troffers are too expensive?? What're you using for a ceiling, pieces of cardboard?
