I have exposed steel girders that I need to put dry wall on top of to conform with building code 1 hour fire rating. they are about 24 by 24 inch girders. Aside from shooting steel stud to girders is there any other suggestions that I can do to speed this job along. My plan is to frame the girders with steel studs and secure the steel stud with ram set shoots. This is a long process, and I am pressed for time. Please I welcome any other advise on the matter.

I believe the steel can be sprayed with a butt ugly lumpy foam like coating that would certainly be quick. If looks aren't an issue, check fire rated coatings for steel. Best of luck.
*Daniel,Is this a complete steel building system? Are the girders, columns, perlins etc all exposed now?Have you considered spraying the steel with A/D TYPE 1 fire resistant insulation? If it's a strict drywall requirement, can you frame with wood?Would they allow you to glue to the girders?Be handy to see your specs on this.Gabe
*Try shooting off hat channel to the steel and then screwing drywall. You didn't mention span on the girders, but you can get hat channel up to 18 ga., if I remember right.Or do you need to wrap the steel? If so, steel stud infill is only way to go.Either way, 2 layers of 5/8 X board will get you your 1 hr rating. If girders are concealed, sprayed fireproofing (see Gabe's message) will be the easiest and most economical way to go.
